I think by now many of you know that I just love designing and making small crochet projects. Not the kind you rush through just to have something finished, but the kind that are a bit whimsical, different and that you can admire each time you look at them. The ones you want to make again, even when you have bigger works in progress waiting patiently. The Iridesca Peacock Feather Bag Charm is exactly that kind of make.

This design began, as many of mine do, with wanting to incorporate a special stitch and this time I also wanted a lot of texture. I wanted to create a gentle arch and small ridges— thinking of something that felt organic and flowing. Of course, I already knew I was going to make another peacock feather to add to my growing collection :) By now I know that it's easy for me to come up with new interpretations so that my feather designs won't look too similar. Ánd I thought of a special use: a charm, and as it's always nice when a charm is tactile, the texture I designed was just perfect.

What’s it like to make?

I’d describe the skill level as adventurous beginner to intermediate. If you’re comfortable with chains, slip stitches, single, half double, and double crochet, you’ll feel right at home — the texture in this design is easier to achieve than it looks, I promise!

The pattern includes clear bullet-point instructions so you always know exactly where you are, plus a detailed step-by-step photo tutorial at every stage. For my samples I used Scheepjes Catona — it gives such a beautiful crisp stitch definition, perfect for a design where texture really matters. But do raid your stash too, as you only need small amounts per colour. Any fingering to sport-weight yarn will work beautifully.
