YARN 4 Book-A-Zine "Dutch Masters": 17 Gorgeous Projects

crochet knitting sewing patterns magazine

A few days ago issue 4 of Scheepjes' craft book-a-zine YARN was published. I'm so excited that I can finally give you an impression of yet another wonderful issue packed with no less than 17 original designs all inspired by four Dutch Masters: Vermeer, Mondrian, Rembrandt and Van Gogh.

For over six months, my fellow Scheepjes bloggers and I worked very hard to be able to present you with a collection of crochet, knitting and sewing projects with a real Dutch flavour. Inspired by the colours and the idiosyncratic style of four Dutch painters we probably all know, this issue has such a special feel to it showing modern items in beautiful settings of bygone eras.

For previous issues, I designed a coaster and a peacock-inspired granny square but this time I did not contribute a crochet pattern myself. I'm involved as a text editor and translator though. YARN is published in both English and Dutch so a lot of work goes into writing, editing and translating as well. And that is something I love as a former teacher of English.

I think you'd like to see some of the designs now, right? They are very special and so photogenic; the amazing photography highlights the beautiful details in each design. Below I'll list links to shops that stock YARN 4 in case you'd like a copy of your own to drool over :-)

Dutch Tulips

One of my favourite projects is this Dutch Tulip and I just had to start making one (or two or three or a vase full) immediately. I love making small decorative items in a large array of colours so this design is perfect (the yarn used is Scheepjes Catona, which comes in 109 different shades so that's also perfect) And so typically Dutch of course. The pattern includes instructions for two different sizes.

Windmill Shawl

Aren't the colours of this shawl gorgeous? I just happen to have the exact same colours lying around so perhaps I'll be wearing one myself soon. You've probably already recognized the yarn. It's Scheepjes Whirl and Whirlette (the 100g uni-coloured little sister of Whirl, ideal for joining or edgings). On IG and FB, I've already seen an amazing variety of Whirl shawls but it didn't include one like this.

Poncho

Then let me show you this poncho designed by Tatsiana Kupryianchyk using Scheepjes Merino Soft Brush. I love everything about it: the shape, the cabled details, the softness of the yarn. Doesn't it look just the most comfy cosy poncho ever?

Men's Cowl

You don't often see a lot of modern designs for men but YARN 4 presents some really cool items. One of them is this knitted cowl, a lovely design by Tammy Canavan-Soldaat. You can finally make some handmade Christmas gifts for the men in your life!

Well, these are just 4 of the 17 designs. The cover shows a few more and gives you a good overview. There are blankets, hats, shawls, bags and quite a few items for men.
