Free Crochet Patterns: Circles & Squares Cushion Covers

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic reception of the cushion covers! I know some of you have already bought the yarn :-) so here are the patterns for my Circles & Squares designs! I'll start with the pattern for the granny square and then explain how to join them to make a cushion cover. I made a small rectangular one but you can of course also make a large square in whatever size you prefer.
After that you'll find the pattern for the large circle with joining instructions.

The patterns are written in US crochet terms but below you'll also find a table with the UK equivalents. The patterns are available in Dutch too.

General Information & Materials 

Skill level: easy / beginners

Hook: 4.5mm

Tapestry needle

Yarn: Scheepjes Colour Crafter Velvet (100% acrylic; 100g/300m), 1 ball of each colour:

• Purple: Burton 859
• Blue: Taylor 842
• Mint: Hepburn 844
• Green: Turner 854

Measurements:

Square:  12 x 12cm / 4.8 x 4.8in

Rectangular cushion cover: approx. 40 x 26cm / 16 x 10.4in

Round cushion cover: diameter 42cm / 16.8in

Instructions Rectangular (or Square) Cushion Cover
Granny Square

Start with a magic ring.

Round 1 Purple

Ch2 on top of magic ring chain (= 1^st dc), 11dc in ring. [12 dc]

Round 2 Green or Blue

2dc in each dc all around. [24 dc]

Round 3 Purple

Start with 1sc in any dc, ch2, *skip 1dc, 1sc in next dc, ch2*; repeat *-* all around. [12 sc, 12 ch-2 spaces]

Round 4 Mint

Start with 1dc in any sc, 3dc in ch-2 space, *1dc in next sc, 3dc in next ch-2 space*; repeat *-* all around. [48 dc]

Round 5 Purple

Start with 1sc in any dc worked into a sc of Round 3, ch2, *skip 1 dc, 1sc in next dc, ch2*; repeat *-* all around. [24 sc, 24 ch-2 spaces]

Round 6 Blue or Green

Start with *2sc in any ch-2 space, 3hdc in next ch-2 space, 2dc in next ch-2 space, (2trc, ch2, 2trc) in next ch-2 space to make a corner, 2dc in next ch-2 space, 3hdc in next ch-2 space*; repeat *-* 3 more times.

Round 7 Purple

1sc in each stitch and 3sc in each ch-2 space.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Joining

Place the individual squares with right sides together and join with sc in each stitch. Join as many squares as needed to acquire size of cushion pad. If the size of the joined squares is a little too small compared to the inner cushion just work rounds of sc around until size is obtained. For my rectangular cover I worked 1 round of sc all around and at the sides an additional 4 rows of sc.

Placing the 2 panels wrong sides together, join with 1sc in each sc all around.

Start with a magic ring

Round 1 Blue

Round 3 Blue

Start with 1sc in any dc, ch2, *skip 1 dc, 1sc in next dc, ch2*; repeat *-* all around. [12 sc, 12 ch-2 spaces]

Round 4 Green

Start with 1dc in any sc, 3dc in ch-2 space, *1dc in next sc, 3dc in next ch-2 space*; repeat *-* all around. [48 dc]

Round 5 Blue

Start with 1sc in any dc worked into a sc of Round 3, ch4, *skip 3 dc, 1sc in next dc, ch4*; repeat *-* all around. [12 sc, 12 ch-4 spaces]

Round 6 Mint

Start with 1dc in any sc, 5dc in ch-4 space, *1dc in next sc, 5dc in next ch-4 space*; repeat *-* all around. [72 dc]

Round 7 Blue

Start with 1sc in any dc worked into a sc of Round 5, ch3, *skip 2 dc, 1sc in next dc, ch3*; repeat *-* all around. [24 sc, 24 ch-3 spaces]

Round 8 Purple

Start with 1dc in any sc, 3dc in ch-3 space, *1dc in next sc, 3dc in next ch-3 space*; repeat *-* all around. [96 dc]

Round 9 Blue

Start with 1sc in any dc worked into a sc of Round 7, ch3, *skip 3 dc, 1sc in next dc, ch3*; repeat *-* all around. [24 sc, 24 ch-3 spaces]

Round 10 Green

Start with 1dc in any sc, 3dc in ch-3 space, *1dc in next sc, 3dc in next ch-3 space*; repeat *-* all around. [96 dc]

Round 11 Blue

Start with 1sc in any dc worked into a sc of Round 9, ch4, *skip 3 dc, 1sc in next dc, ch4*; repeat *-* all around. [24 sc, 24 ch-4 spaces]

Round 12 Mint

Start with 1dc in any sc, 5dc in ch-4 space, *1dc in next sc, 5dc in next ch-4 space*; repeat *-* all around. [144 dc]

Round 13 Blue

Start with 1sc in any dc worked into a sc of Round 11, ch4, *skip 5 dc, 1sc in next dc, ch4*; repeat *-* all around. [24 sc, 24 ch-4 spaces]

1dc in each dc all around. [192 dc]

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Joining Purple
Place the 2 circles with wrong sides together and working through stitches of both circles work 1sc in each dc all around.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
